ISBN: 1-898073-09-0 Audrey Cooper was born in a cottage on the edge of the New Forest and inherited her love of gardening from her father. From the age of six she had her own small corner of the garden and grew vegatables and flowers from seed even cultivating wild flowers. It was only recently that her love affair with PENSTEMONS began but having discovered them decided to find out everything she could about the individual cultivars and their history. During her research she learnt that a plant hunter from the nineteenth century David Douglas, after whom the Douglas Fir is named, was responsible for introducint many PENSTEMONS into this country. An interesting chapter tells of the trials and tribulations Douglas experienced in his quest. Apart from detailing their cultivation the book contains a descriptive list of all the more popular PENSTEMONS available today together with colour photographs and should prove a useful reference guide to all those interested in these lovely plants.
